Hitherto, few bacterial species have been reported to convert lactate to n-caproate. Here, we report the complete genome sequences of three novel Clostridia strains that were isolated from an anaerobic bioreactor producing caproate from lactate-rich corn silage. The strains were isolated on lactate as sole carbon source and produce n-caproate, n-butyrate and iso-butyrate, besides acetate. Genomes were assembled using a short-read and long-read sequencing hybrid approach and genes involved in lactate-based chain elongation were identified. |
