Description The goal of this study is to evaluate the 1) potential functions of uncultured, highly divergent, and globally distributed microbes; 2) genetic adaptations to changes in pressure, temperature, electron acceptors (e.g., oxygen, nitrate, sulfate and iron), electron donors (e.g., organic carbon and sulfide), and nutrients (e.g., nitrogen and phosphorus); and 3) differences in the distribution, sequence, and transcription of genes specifically involved in inorganic (carbon dioxide and methane) and organic carbon utilization.
