Description A cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803, the first photosynthetic organism whose genome was sequenced at 1996 (Kazusa strain), is a model organism for basic research for photosynthesis, evolution and molecular genetics. However, it is widely known that there are a lot of substrains of Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803, such as glucose-tolerant strain (GT) and PCC strain. Here, we resequenced the genomes of several substrains (GT-I, PCC-P, and PCC-N) and compared them with the genome of the Kazusa strain. According to this comparative analysis, we found that each substrain has specific mutations which are the potential contributors of individual phenotypes.
