Project Description
MIT9211 is the type strain of the high B/A III (LLIII) clade. This clade is the only one remaining with no members that have been sequenced; MIT9211 often makes up a small but significant fraction of the population (Ahlgren et al in prep.; Zinser et al, in prep); MIT9211 is unique among Prochlorococcus in its photophysiology and pigment composition (Moore and Chisholm 1999).
