Whiteflies are among the most important insect pests and plant virus vectors. We sequenced and de novo assembled the genome of the whitefly Bemisia tabaci, Middle East-Asia Minor 1 (MEAM1), which provides a valuable resource to help understand unique features of whiteflies and develop novel strategies to manage whiteflies and the viruses they transmit.
