Penicillium spp. are a group of fungi that cause post-harvest decay in pome fruit such as apple and pear. The objectives is to study the mechanism of pathogenicity in the blue molds. To discover or identify genes involved in fungal infection in Penicillium species is a fundamental step for better understanding the mechanism of pathogen-host interaction. This information is important for designing specific control strategies to eliminate postharvest decay of pome fruit.
