Sequencing of acidophilic heterotrophic iron oxidising organisms. Strain T23T (= DSMZ 19497 T, ATCC BAA-1647 T), which represents the species Ferrimicrobium acidiphilium as type strain, was isolated from a pyrite enrichment culture inoculated with a mine water sample from an abandoned sulfur mine in Wales, UK (Johnson et al. 2009). It is an acidophilic heterotrophic iron-oxidiser able to reduce ferric iron under anoxic conditions
