Strain Halomonas sp. strain 018T identify staff Institution of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Biology, Ufa Research Center of the bottom sediment of one of the soda lakes of Buryatia and characterized by an unusual ability to actively aktseptsii nitrites and recovery solutions to their high concentrations (up to 3-5% sodium nitrite). Recovery of nitrite to nitrogen gas occurs very rapidly under anaerobic (anoxic) conditions in the presence of reducing substrates - mixtures of amino acids or citrate. Characteristically, the utilization of nitrous acid anions is to virtually undetectable concentrations of NO2-, indicating that either the unusual topology of nitrite-nitrate reductase in the plasma membrane and its high specificity, or activity, or the presence of active transport mechanisms of concentration of anions through the cytoplasmic membrane., Also oxidize in the same conditions 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid, better known as taurine. For strain Halomonas sp. 018T typical oxidizing ability of taurine to hydroxy-methanesulfonic acid. Anoxic process is accompanied by the restoration of NO2-to molecular nitrogen, and deamination of 2-c aminoethanesulfonic acid accumulation hydronium ions in the environment, kompensiruschim surplus cations Na + (due to recovery of the anions of sodium nitrite to nitrogen). Getting information about the structure of the genome Halomonas sp. 018T would determine which proteins might be involved in the oxidation of the unusual substrate, creating a consolidated view of the performance and features of these bacteria metaboloms
