Isolated from benzoate enrichments of flooded paddy field rhizosphere) Rubrivivax benzoatilyticus JA2 is purple non-sulfur anoxygenic photosynthetic bacterium belongs to class betaproteobacteria. It has bacteriochlorophyll and carotenoids of both spirilloxanthin and sphaeroidene series. It grows photo-autotrophically, photohetertrophically and organoherterotrophically and is able to also grow diazotrophically. It is a prolific producer of polyhydroxyalkanoates and variety of indolic and phenolic secondary metabolites.
