Methylotrophic bacteria are a group of bacteria which are able to grow aerobically at the expense of methanol as the sole source of carbon and energy, and therefore could serve as biocatalysts for the conversion of methanol to commercially valuable multicarbon compounds like amino acids and cytochromes. Pink-pigmented facultative methylotrophs of the genus Methylovorus are ubiquitous in soil, air and water environments. The MP688 strain was isolated from soil
