Project Description
Clostridium ultunense DSM 10521 was purchased from DSMZ for genome sequencing, however 16S rDNA clone library constructed from this strain indicated that this strain was contaminated by a unknown strain related to Aminobacterium colombiense DSM 12261 (16S rDNA similarity>98%) and this result was confirmed by DSMZ. Clostridium ultunense DSM 10521 was enriched to about 70% abundance in the mix culture, which was used for DNA extraction and then 454 GS FLX Sequencing. Clostridium ultunense DSM 10521T was reported as a typical mesophilic syntrophic acetate oxidizer. In the project's biogas metagenome project (ID: 50503), a set of 16S rDNA sequences were closely matched to this species phylogenetically. Therefore, this strain was selected to sequence as a reference genome for this project.
