An obligately chemolithotrophic iron-oxidizing bacterium Leptospirillum ferrooxidans C2-3 belonging to phylum Nitrospirae was isolated from fresh volcanic ash deposit in the island of Miyake, Japan. The genome sequence of this organism will provide information on the production and regulation of proteins and will be used for comparative analysis with other iron-oxidizing bacteria
