Project Description
Phytoplasmas are bacterial plant pathogens that cause economically relevant yield losses in crops worldwide, including fruit and woody trees. In this project, we obtained the draft genome sequence of a 'Ca. Phytoplasma phoenicium' strain associated with almond witches'-broom disease in Lebanon. Obtained results highlighted intriguing preliminary insights on the metabolism and the possible interactions of phytoplasma with hosts. Characterization of genes selected from the draft genome revealed new information about the complexity of 'Ca. Phytoplasma phoenicium' population structure.
