Description Vitamin B12 is an essential metabolite for all prokaryotes. Some bacteria lack the capability of de novo synthesizing B12, making these organisms dependent on extracellular sources. I study two marine bacterial B12-auxotrophs that are able overcome their auxotropy in coculture by providing each other with respective B12-metabolite precursor.
