Description This proposal is of interest to the USDOE because: (a) it involves biodegradation of PAH-type compounds that occurs on DOE sites; (b) it builds on a prior JGI project (whole genome sequencing of Polaromonas naphthalenivorans CJ2); this organism is native to the field study site and has been shown to be active in situ; thus, its genome sequence is likely to assist in interpretation of the metagenomic data generated; and (c) the microbial interactions that will be elucidated from the carbon- and nitrogen- flow aspect of this project provides new fundamental information, also potentially important for the clean up of many DOE sites.
