Description DNA and bacteria can be obtained from Dr. Rob Willems and Dr. Willem van Schaik. Enterococcus faecium is a common member of the gastrointestinal microbiota of mammals. Since the 1990s it has also emerged as a nosocomial pathogen that has acquired resistance to multiple antibiotics. Strain E4453 has been isolated from dog feces. Recently E. faecium strains from dogs have been linked to strains isolated from human infections
