Sample Description
Epibionts from a single Alvinella pompejana polychaete worm provided the source DNA for a shotgun library with 2-4kb inserts. This polychaete was collected from the Bio9 vent, at a depth of 2500m at the 9-N hydrothermal vent field on the East Pacific Rise where temperatures were recorded between 38-51deg C at the time of collection. PCR-amplified 16S rRNA sequences from the epibiont DNA revealed a highly constrained assemblage of almost entirely epsilonproteobacteria
