Project Description
V. nigripulchritudo is responsible for mass mortalities of shrimp in New Caledonia. The analysis of the genome sequence of one strain, SFn1 (realized by the Genoscope), genetic approaches and molecular epidemiology led us to suggest that plasmids and chromosomal elements played a role in the emergence of a pathogenic lineage. Through genome sequencing of 15 additional strains this project will yield insight into the key features underlying virulence, and will investigate whether horizontal gene acquisitions have driven the differentiation of virulent lineages.
