Project Description
![]() |
Non-tuberculous mycobacteria is of great clinical importance with respect to recent increasing prevalence of non-tuberculous mycobacteriosis such as Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare complex (MAC) disease and difficulty to treat it without specific antibiotics. However, bacteriological etiology of non-tuberculous mycobacteria remains to be elucidated yet. We found a hypervirulent Mycobacterium intracellulare strain (M.i.198) isolated from immunocompetent pulmonary MAC disease humans in 2009. We performed whole genome sequencing of the M.i.198 strain in order to elucidate genomic background such as strain-specific virulence factors which impacts on clinical disease progression
