Project Description
Avibacterium paragallinarum cause infectious coryza, an acute respiratory disease of poultry. This infectious disease occurs worldwide and produces significant economic losses due to an increased number of culls, low gain in weight of infected birds, and a drop in egg production mainly in farms. The availability of genome sequence from Avibacterium provides pathogenic nature of the organism. One of the promising strategies to finding the means to control the disease is to study the mechanisms of adherence of the bacteria to the host cells that is crucial for successful colonization of the tissues. Understanding these is the first step to designing vaccines that will help stem the spread of this disease.
