Description GOLD analysis project created from public NCBI/GenBank data. Stanford University sequenced the heterozygous diploid genome of Candida albicans strain SC5314 using whole genome shotgun (WGS) sequencing. They initially assembled the sequence using PHRAP, which resulted in an assembly (Assembly 6) in which the sum of the contigs significantly exceeded the haploid genome size due to the heterozygosity. They then developed computational methods to reconstruct the diploid genome sequence from the PHRAP assembly, which resulted in an assembly (Assembly 19) that was in good agreement with available physical mapping data.
